Pioneers Medical Center is a community-based healthcare facility. We focus on building lifelong partnerships with our patients to empower them to achieve optimal health. We’ve been serving Meeker and the White River Valley since 1950. During this time, PMC has developed a reputation as one of the finest healthcare facilities along the Western Slope.

Our History

Pioneers Medical Center began our journey in 1947 when Freeman Fairfield approached the Rio Blanco County Commissioners about establishing a hospital for the Meeker community. Mr. Fairfield contributed $175,000 of his own money to the project. His commitment and financial support have enabled Meeker residents to benefit from exceptional quality healthcare services to this day.

The construction of Pioneers Medical Center was a project that meant a great deal to Mr. Fairfield. He took time out of his busy life to attend the groundbreaking ceremony in person, and he was integrally involved throughout the entire construction process. The hospital opened in 1950, just three years after construction began. Pioneers Medical Center has served our Community ever since. While the original building may not be intact anymore, the mission and purpose of PMC lives on as we continue to expand the services we provide to the community.

Today, Pioneers Medical Center is licensed through the Colorado State Department of Health, and is both Medicare and Medicaid certified. Healthcare has become central to our community, and PMC serves as the anchor providing these important services.

Meeker Family Health Center

A wide variety of healthcare services are delivered through Meeker Family Health Center. This facility opened in 1990 as a rural health clinic and its physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and staff have been meeting the healthcare needs of our community for over 30 years.

Meeker Family Health Center offers comprehensive healthcare services, including:

Walbridge Memorial Convalescent Wing

In 1960, the Walbridge Memorial Convalescent Wing opened its doors for long term care. This facility was made possible throughout the generosity of Lewis and Adelaide Walbridge. Attached to the north side of the hospital, the Walbridge Wing contains 33 beds and provides comprehensive long term care and nursing services to its residents.

Each resident’s care is individualized to meet his or her physical, emotional, nutritional and spiritual needs. Services offered at Walbridge include:

Pioneers Healthcare Foundation supports the hospital by raising money used to fund important healthcare programs, services and equipment that enable us to fulfill our mission of providing exceptional care. Through the efforts of the foundation, PMC is able to continuously expand the programs we offer while ensuring treatments are delivered using the most advanced technology available.
