Pioneers Medical Center is located in the town of Meeker, in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. Meeker is home to the White River National Forest, Flat Tops Wilderness Area, and nearly 1.5 million acres of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), incorporating 580 miles of designated public trails with access from town. Whether you love hiking, archery with the latest bow case, biking or enjoy your ATV, OHV or Jeep, discover all there is to offer in our beautiful valley. With over 240 days of sunshine each year, you have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

The White River Valley is also an area rich in cultural heritage and dramatic American history. We encourage our out of town guests to visit the numerous historic sites Meeker has to offer as well as the White River Museum, which is housed in the Officer’s Quarters of the old Meeker U.S. Cavalry Garrison.

Outdoor Attractions

The town of Meeker is nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of Colorado. Our stunning wildlife, rivers, lakes, hiking trails and campgrounds provide the perfect playground for outdoor enthusiasts. The following outdoor attractions can provide tremendous enrichment for your experience while you visit us for medical care.

The White River

The White River flows through our valley, providing excellent rafting and fishing opportunities. The area is famous for trout fishing, featuring four species (rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook). There are many public access points in Meeker, making it easy to enjoy all the river has to offer. A scenic walk along the river path will make for a beautiful, relaxing afternoon.

 

White River National Forest

The White River National Forest contains over 2.3 million acres of land. Meeker is located in the Blanco District, which contains over 350,000 acres of national forest land. With elevations ranging from 6,500 to 12,000 feet, the views are spectacular.

Flat Tops Wilderness Area

With over 230,000 acres of stunning wildlife, trails, rivers, lakes and campgrounds, the Flat Tops Wilderness area is a must-see for outdoorsy families. You can also take advantage of the many guided services in the Wilderness, making it easy to experience the natural beauty of the Flat Tops.

Flat Tops Scenic Byway

The Flat Tops Scenic Byway connects the towns of Meeker and Yampa. This scenic drive offers beautiful views of fall foliage in late September and early October, making it a must-see for leaf peepers.
