PMC Board Held Annual Meeting and Election of Officers

Thursday, May 22, 2008 during the Pioneers Medical Center Board of Directors monthly meeting Richard Ellsworth, Patrick Hooker and Tom Allen took the oath to serve on the PMC Board of Directors. In April of even numbered years, the Eastern Rio Blanco Healthcare Services District (Healthcare District) holds a public election for seats to the board of directors. This past April there were three available seats on the board, Tom Allen, Patrick Hooker were re-elected, and Richard Ellsworth was elected as the only three running for the open seats.

The board held its annual officer election. Kris Borchard was elected to serve a second term as president. Dondi Glasscock will continue to serve as vice president. And Diane Dunham will assume the responsibilities of Secretary.

Additionally, the board approved a change in Healthcare District By-Laws. The annual meeting, oath of board members and officer elections will be held in May of each year. “We needed to align our annual meeting to be after the April public election of board members,” said Kris Borchard, President.

Robert Omer, PMC Chief Executive Officer reported on the progress of replacing and upgrading the current single slice computed tomography (CT) scanner. “We have raised over $465,000 in grant funds to assist with the replacement, said Omer. “Later this year we will upgrade our CT services to a multi-slice CT scanner.” A CT Scanner is the number one diagnostic equipment used when treating head trauma, as well as many other internal injuries and illnesses. The current CT Scanner is becoming technologically obsolete. The proposed upgraded equipment system will enable physicians to see more detailed images of the patient being examined.

Branch Bullard, M.D., PMC physician as been selected to be a Senior Clinic Instructor through the University of Colorado. This is a great opportunity for both PMC and medical students. This summer a medical student will spend four to six weeks at PMC completing a his/her rural medicine rounds. “This is a great way to introduce future physicians to a rural medical facility, plus it will give the student a wide variety of experience. We see a little bit of everything, which is a great learning environment,” said Bullard.

Approval was given to authorize expenditures and accounts payable disbursements for the month of April.

The next regular meeting of the Pioneers Medical Center Board of Directors will be Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 6:00pm. The Board of Directors typically meets the third Thursday of each month.
